Here's a cover of "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye." Thanks to Neal for teaching me this version. I like the sentiments in the lyrics of this version. I have a tough time churching up the frailing while singing and changing chords, but here it is, warts 'n' all.
Started off with Omie Wise and kept on going with some of Wayfaring Stranger. I was lamenting over how my voice would be perfect if I was a little old man living in the mountains - a friend pointed out that folk music's gotta sound like it's sung by folk. Go figure.
I changed the key of Omie Wise to E-minor. I guess it's easier to play that way.
I've been workin' my way through "The How and the Tao of Old Time Banjo", and I finally got to learnin' Cripple Creek. They say it's one of those song you just gotta know. Song was playin' away in my head all weekend, so I had to set it free on you folks.
I tried a few new things with this one. Open D tuning (aDF#AD), slide, and an abridged version of Hesitation Blues in a different key. All this stuff's covered in the Daily Frail (http://tangiersound .wordpress.com/2008/ 02/26/the-daily-frai l-22608/)
I tuned the drone string to "A" and practiced some frailing in "A minor." Thanks to Patrick for his lessons on frailing, I think I'm starting to "get it."
I tore my banjo apart over the weekend, and thought I'd post a video for my friends that I did, indeed, bring it back to life.
I also applied some of the lessons in today's The Daily Frail on Tangier Sound. (Even if I'm not making any sense in the video, that's what I'm talking about.)

I learned this one in part from Tangier Sound (http://tangiersound .wordpress.com) and part from Roger McGuinn's Folk Den (http://www.ibiblio. org/jimmy/folkden-wp )
I couldn't quite get the double-thumbing down, but it's a neat sound when I get it right.
It's Springtime, my spirits are lifted, and I thought I'd mesh a few uplifing songs together: Wildwood Flower, Red River Valley, and Cripple Creek. I guess I'm chuckling because I know those high notes are way out of my range, but you know that don't stop me. :D
I was practicing "The Coo Coo" in Sawmill tuning, then started tuning down to work on "Wildwood Flower." But the nut on my new banjo's pretty raw and I busted another string. Too lazy to tie up another string, I started messing around...
