This is one of hopefully several clips from VHS's my father & I taped back in the late 80's,
This set of clips is from an excursion run between Birmingham, AL and Chattanooga, TN
Please feel free to comment on them and I hope to have more up soon.
Thanks & enjoy!
This is a runby of a south bound CSX in Opelika, Al. The power consists of an Atlantic Coast Line lead converted to Seaboard System naming. The other two are std. Seaboard paint. These shots are just after the merge of C&O and Seaboard Systems which in turn created the railroad we know today as CSX.
Here's a meet at Smiths Station, Al. This is a few miles east of Columbus, Ga on the NS (Central of Georgia) main line between Birmingham, Al and Columbus, Ga.
This clip was taken at the Bailey yard rail fan visitors platform.
The yard is huge & with great respect to UP, they placed a platform there for rail fans to visit & learn about the history of the yard.
Toward the end of the clip you can see the top of the "Hump".
Enjoy!

Here's something that's not seen too often on Youtube when it comes to railroading, switching. Though this wasn't the bigest of jobs, switching in general is one of the most inportant aspects of railroading but it often the most overlooked.
Enjoy!

Here's an BNSF coal train coming over the Tennessee River in Decatur, Al. The train has trackage rights over the NS/ CSX shared bridge.
The sun became cooperative for a moment & lit this one up as they made their way over.
Take a close look at the DPU in the rear. When it first comes into the shot it's belching black smoke.
Enjoy!
