In a first-of-its-kind experiment, the brain activity of a monkey has been used to control the real-time walking patterns of a robot half way around the world, according to researchers at Duke University.
Using acupuncture before and during surgery significantly reduces the level of pain and the amount of potent painkillers needed by patients after the surgery is over, according to Duke University Medical Center anesthesiologists who combined data from 15 small randomized acupuncture clinical trials.

In August of 2007, a team of 28 medical professionals, most all of them from Duke University, traveled to Kampala, Uganda, to set up more than $1 million of surplus Duke medical equipment in New Mulago Hospital, Kampala. Once set up, three Duke neurosurgeons, joined by Duke anesthesiologists, Duke nurses and support staff then performed nearly 40 surgical cases in the next five days.
