Here's a challenging independence exercise , polyrhythms , (played in this order) 5:2, 5:3, 5:4, 5:6.
Check out pt2 by clicking on my self posted video response. Currently up to part 8 now.
Another couple of original performance sets created on a Nord Lead 2X. Inspired by some of early electronic sounds from the 50s-60s of the late Karlheinz Stockhausen. (No actual modifications or harm were done to this synthesizer as the title suggests).
This exercise is based on the 5:3 pattern. Like part 2, extra note is added to interupt cycle as to fit it in a 4 measure structure. The ride bell shows where the dotted eighths land with the right hand.
This is an exercise with alternate stickings RLRL. right side cycle 5s, left side cycle 3s. Then add hihat with foot. It's okay to allow for displacements with the smaller cycle, and starting the cycle in different places. It's helpful to think of the larger cycle more so as the base ostinato. The smaller cycle has to accelerate faster, so this exercise helps body motion control independence.
