Simple laser spirograph
Posted by: buzbee1
Video duration: 147 seconds
Make your own simple laser light show with a couple of hobby motors, mirrors and a laser pointer. The image is much crisper in person - the camera fuzzed it up a bit.

Coherer
Posted by: buzbee1
Video duration: 78 seconds
This is an example of the first useful kind of radio detector (invented in the late 1800s) - a "coherer". It consists of a pair of electrodes separated by a loose pile of iron filings. When activated by a strong radio signal (in this case generated by a spark gap transmitter) the resistance of the coherer changes from high to low. This state persists until the device is physically shaken.

Coherer #2

Video duration: 133 seconds
I built another coherer - a little cleaner this time. And, rather than just testing resistance, I've wired it up to light an LED when it detects a spark-generated radio wave.
